Blogging Again!

As a way to document my training for ????? Ironman Kentucky - Big Kahuna Half Ironman - New York Marathon.

You pick it ;)

People say to me - "It is easy for you" but a lot goes into being able to do what I do and sometimes I am not even sure I do what I do well but I guess well enough.

Let's start with Metrics - today I weighed in at 173.6 about 20lbs heavier than my lightest weight and 77 pounds lower than my highest weight. I have been hovering around 175 since the beginning of the year.

I feel that 165-170 is proper race weight for me. I have a major race coming up in 9 days. Escape from Alcatraz Relay (running of course). Means I need to drop at least another 3lbs by next Saturday.

My goal at Alcatraz will be to at least match my friend John Thomas' time of 49:10 for the 8 mile course.

I practiced at pace this morning - 58:34. Last Sunday when I was learning the course it took me 1 hour 14 minutes.

There is so room for improvement but not bad considering I had no one to pace off of or chase.

Lunch with a view

So in between training today I decided to go have lunch up on vista hill in Foothills Park up along Page Mill Road. I was treated to a vast view of the peninsula and enjoyed my lunch. It reminded me of the days when Cori and I would go have lunch on a daily basis and I would try an find the perfect lunch spots for us to enjoy our meals.

Cold Outside

Listening to the news disenfranchises me especially the venomous rhetoric by politcians and the incompetence of the Bay Bridge replacement process.

It is really cold outside. I half think I am doing Nico a favor pulling him out of soccer until his grades improve.

The man in black is back!

Finished 2nd at Jungle Run last month. Last week had a peronal best at
both the Santa Cruz Sprint Tri and the spalsh and Dash. 64 out of 499
at SCST and beat my previous time by 20 minutes at S & D. Swimming
about every week at the Wharf in Santa Cruz and taking weekly hikes.
Next week I plan to hike the ridge to the sea for a second time. Yes
the man in the arena is back but mindful that I an prone to injury so
the key is to train smart.

A Moment to Reflect

Always on the go or so it seems but such is the case when you have
lofty goals and a body with which to accomplish them. I would say that
all is well. Miles to go before I sleep I guess I guess is what I say
and promises to keep. I did the Skyline to the Sea hike not to long
ago with Nico and Hallvard. 32.5 miles. It was great. Last week I came
in second in my age group at the Jungle Run in Los Gatos. I am going
to Guerneville this weekend to support Hallvard in his first Ironman.
I think next year I will go to Norway and to the Ironman there called
the Norseman. Next month I am going to a sprint triathlon, a 10k and a
second ridge to the sea hike. Well may fortune favor the foolish and
the wind be at my back.

Heading up to Eagle Rock atop Little Basin

Starting to blog again. I get lazy when I am home so I am going to try
blogging on the go thanks in part to my new iPhone. So my friend
Justin and I are heading up to Eagle Rock. I wonder what I will find
up there.

Half the year done! Lookin forward to the second half!

So half the year has gone by. ALOT has happened. I am restarting my running training. Seeing as how I crashed again 3 weeks ago. Calves locked up, excrutiating pain in my quad in addition to my left ham string. Well I am better know for the most part but I need to take it easy. This week I am planning to resume training and hike the Skyline to the Sea trail. I also have the Splash and Dash on Thursday! The Splash and Dash is put on by Skinfit who's one of our team's sponsors. I am looking forward to both.
