Fit2Run is now The Man in the Arena

Well it is now June 1st and a lot has gone down since I last wrote. The Boston Marathon had crippled my training to non-existent. However thanks to Greg at SMI, my mom, and some much needed rest I am near 100%.

Greg at SMI and his anecdotal knowledge of the human body and specifically the injuries runners incur while training and racing helped identify my injuries and fix them.

My mom for financially supporting my rehabilitation.

And some much needed rest. It was hard to lay off training and I still have not been back to the Skyline Ridges since before Boston as I am practicing baby steps in my recovery and waiting till I am ready.

SO I went to Big Sur but did not compete in the relay because it was too soon after Boston. I had Drew C. run in my place. I was very pleased though with thier effort. They finished in 3hours 55 minutes. It made me very proud to see Nico sprint across the finish line. Of course Christina did not turn on my Garmin watch so the data was lost but overall I was happy. JD organised the race for us so it only seemed fair to let him keep the botton. I was very proud of him as well having come such a long way in a short time.

In the meantime I competed in the Olympic Distance Triathlon at Wildflower.

I came to Wildflower in a really foul mood after having lost my keys at the gym on Friday night and having to wait till 10pm for someone to come pick me up so I could go home and pack. Alana was having none of that though and instantly tamed the beast in me with her "southern charm".

I pulled my left hamstring trying to compensate for my right IT band. Nevertheless I had a good race. I finished about 5 minutes slower than my first Olympic Tri in Santa Barbara which I thought was good all things considered.

I competed in the Great Urban Race with about 7 other members of my Tri Team. It was a great race working together solving clues, racing across the city by bus and on foot. We were all dressed in costume as well. I had a blast. We even qualified for the national championship in New Orleans.

The next day I met with some of my Fit2Run class and my family to run the Bay to Breakers. We had a great time there as well but to be honest it was all kind of played out to me. It is always the same course and the same people. I might skip next year unless I am doing something special like a centipede.

Last week I was finally able to resume regular training and not just racing at low intensity and I wasted no time.

On Memorial day Hallvard and his family and I hiked up to Mt. Tam from Stinson Beach. Then finished off the day with a great dinner and conversation over some vino.

Last Wednesday Hallvard and I rode our bikes to Los Gatos for coffee. It was a ride I had been wanting to do for some time so I was very happy we got it out of the way. He is leaving in two months and there is a lot I want to get done.

Today I am recovering from a hard weekend of training that included a 40 mile ride to Double Dogg Ranch and a 4.5 mile run at the ranch once we got there to celebrate my friend Todd's birthday. On Sunday he and I went to Santa Cruz and swam around the wharf (a 1 mile swim). Afterwards we met Drew C. and we ran the Santa Cruz 10k course.

As you can tell by my blog title I am changing the name of my blog from Fit2Run to The Man in the Arena. Afterall I am not just a runner I am a triathlete now and a proud one at that. This summer will be filled with may challenges, adventures and races. Afterall I am "the man in the arena."
